With the pressures of COVID-19, Epsom College is changing its admissions process for Year 7 Entry. Their typical CAT4 examinations are being replaced by the ISEB Common Pretest, which should be taken by applicants at their current school in the fall term of Year 6. Those who are unable to complete it at their current school have the option to do it at Epsom College on January 7th or 8th. The school is still considering references and interviews for 11+ entry.

The ISEB Pretest

This examination covers skills in English, Maths, and Verbal and Non-Verbal Reasoning. It typically lasts a total of 2.5 hours and distributes across the following subjects.

  • English (25 min): comprehension, sentence completion, spelling and punctuation

  • Maths (50 min): mathematical ability across the curriculum – arithmetic and problem solving

  • Verbal Reasoning (~36 min): problem-solving using words

  • Non-Verbal Reasoning (~32 min): thinking with shapes, space, diagrams and pictures
